Our History
The groundwork of Help for Orphans in Cameroon (HFOIC) started in 2012 when Helen Tabe, founder and CEO, interned in orphanages and social centers after studying counseling psychology at the higher teacher training college. She discovered the poor psycho-social behavior of children, which affected their cognitive and educational health. Helen and a group of psychologists formed an organization which focused on community education and counseling outreach to meet the needs of orphans and vulnerable children in 4 remote villages in the region. The program resulted in a community learning center for orphans and vulnerable children with focus on orphans with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and visual processing disorder. Orphans gathered at the center 4 times per week for education and counseling, as well as other psycho-social activities to build their minds. Due to the English Cameroon War and an increase in the number of orphans and street children who lacked shelter. HFOIC was registered in 2014 as a community based organization with the mission to provide quality education,The program is managed locally by 7 board members and 45 volunteers.

HFOIC, short for Help for Orphans and In Cameroon, is a dedicated NGO committed to transforming lives and fostering positive change. Operating in Cameroon, we focus on addressing pressing issues such as Orphan Support, Poverty Eradication, Gender Inequality, comprehensive Sex Education, Environmental Hygiene and Mental Health Awareness.
At HFOIC, we believe in building resilient minds and inclusive communities. Our mission is to provide quality education and training, counseling, good health, nutritious food and material support to orphans and vulnerable children in Cameroon with focus on empowering girls for sustainable development.
