Mental Health Education in community schools

Goal One.

Healing War Orphans in Vulnerable Communities

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.

In order to achieve our 2030 sustainable development goals, children have to be in good mental health. Poor mental health hinders learning which is a major step for sustainable development. War has a devastating effect on children’s mental health as it effects can last a lifetime. Traumatic events have profound effects on cognitive , affective and behavioral aspects of children and causes them to suffer from anxiety disorders, depression, post traumatic stress disorder and other personality disorders.

Goal Two.

Substance Abuse Education For Adolescents

Each year education on the adverse effects of illicit drugs is given adolescents in schools, rehabilitation centers, and community groups. Lectures on the effects of illicit drugs on academic performance, physical health, mental health are taught. Adolescents are also made to know the number of death recorded each year due to drug abuse, drug law and sanctions, and the situation in Cameroon.

Drug addiction is a disease found in every 2 out of 10 youths in Cameroon. Youths drop out of school as well as indulge in many offences. Help for orphans in cameroon working in partnership with the South west psychotherapy group and clinical psychologist, treat addicts using cognitive behavioral therapy, detoxification, multivational interview, multidimensional family therapy.

Types of therapies for children:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Expressive arts therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Mindfulness and relaxation training,
  • Psychodrama and psycho-synthesis.

Types of therapies for adolescents:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT)
  • Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)
  • Psychoanalysis,
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Group therapy
  • Interpersonal Therapy
  • Trauma focused  cognitive behavioral therapy.
Goal Three.

Mental Health Camps

In order to foster good mental health in youths, the following topics taught in our mental health camps: conflict management, anger management, Self-esteem and quality of life, Relationship issues, Coping with rejection, Handling frustration, Building resilience, and Stress management strategies etc…

Goal Four.

Sports For Mental Health

Sports is used to relax muscles and to boost happy hormones in children. In this light, sports is always incorporated in our therapy programs. children play football, handball and volleyball, etc.
