Our History
The groundwork of Building Minds Africa (BMA) started in 2012 when 3 cognitive psychologists visited children social centers in the fako division of Cameroon. They discovered the poor psycho-social behavior of children, which affected their cognitive and educational health. These psychologists formed an organization which focused on community education and counseling outreach to meet the needs of vulnerable children in 4 remote villages in the region. The program resulted in a community learning center for vulnerable children with focus on children with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and visual processing disorder. Children gathered at the center 4 times per week for education and counseling, as well as other psycho-social activities to build their minds. HFOIC was registered in 2014 as a community based organization with registration number- No. 390/ G37/ D14/ VOL II/SAAJP of 16 April 2014 . The program is managed locally by 7 board members and 45 volunteers.
