Our Story
Our Story
The foundations of Help for Orphans in Cameroon (HFOIC) were laid in 2012 when three cognitive psychologists, after completing their studies in counseling psychology, volunteered in children’s social centers across Fako Division, Cameroon. During their work, they observed that many vulnerable children were struggling with psychosocial challenges that negatively affected their cognitive development, emotional well-being, and academic performance. Recognizing the urgent need for community-based support, they came together to establish an organization dedicated to providing education, counseling, and psychosocial services to children in underserved communities.
Their first initiative reached four remote villages, where they organized community education and counseling outreach programs for vulnerable children. This effort led to the establishment of a Community Learning Center that provided specialized support for children living with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and visual processing disorders. Children attended the center four days each week to receive educational support, counseling, and a range of psychosocial activities designed to strengthen their confidence, resilience, and overall development.
In recognition of its growing impact, Help for Orphans in Cameroon (HFOIC) was officially registered as a community-based organization on 16 April 2014 under Registration No. 390/G37/D14/VOL II/SAAJP. Today, the organization is locally governed by a dedicated Board of seven members and supported by a passionate team of 20 volunteers who continue to advance HFOIC’s mission of improving the lives of vulnerable children and adolescents across Cameroon.
This version is suitable for grant applications, annual reports, and donor communications. If you want it to sound even more compelling for international funders, I can also rewrite it in a stronger, donor-focused style.
